Pengvinen - Vintage Rya Rug - 4' x 6'
Pengvinen, translated as "The Penguin," was designed by Lea Eskola (1923-2012).
Shown here installed as a tapestry, it works well to quiet the outside while being bright and modern, bringing a warm beauty to your Arctic fantasy.
This model was made for the Friends of Finnish Handwork, an association founded in 1879 to document and promote textiles in Finland. It won an award at the Milan Triennale in 1957. It's been kept in excellent condition, with a thick pile and tight knots of natural-undyed wool that contrast with the gorgeous blueish-black-to-black wool center.
