Meng Pillow One - Charcoal Resist Dye
Our Meng Pillow tells a story of the butterfly. At first, one might just see flowers, with prominent floral and vase motifs. But upon further looking, the handloomed cotton with its resist-paste technique shows stems that end in a swirl, reminiscent of linework seen in Dong's depiction of butterfly anteana. And further, there is a motif that might be a dragon, but I suggest a stylized butterfly coming out of its cocoon. Mid-20th century. Guizhou.
