Indigo Pillow - Winnow Vintage Resist Dye

The Winnow pillow is a piecework resist dye indigo pillow composed of fragments from hand-loomed antique indigo cotton from Hebei Province, China. Early 20th C. indigo dyed beautifully by skilled craftspeople in floral and butterfly motifs. These resist-dye butterfly motifs are traditionally done by tying the cloth around a rice husk. The name Winnow refers to the process of removing the husk from the rice using the strength of the wind.
